How to Adjust the MA3 LFA Regulator

How to Adjust the MA3 LFA Regulator

The Macavity Arms MA3 PCP air rifle is designed to give shooters direct control over performance through its Linear Free Adjustable (LFA) regulator. This regulator allows easy, repeatable tuning without removing the action or fully depressurizing the air cylinder, making the MA3 especially user-friendly for both field shooters and enthusiasts who like to fine-tune their setup.

Understanding the LFA Regulator

The LFA regulator on the MA3 offers an effective adjustment range between 600 and 3200 PSI, allowing you to tune the rifle for different pellets, power levels, and shooting conditions. Regulator pressure directly affects velocity consistency and shot behavior, so small, deliberate adjustments are recommended.

Increasing Regulator Pressure

To raise the regulator pressure, locate the adjustment knob at the bottom of the wood stock. Turn the knob clockwise slowly while watching the regulator gauge. As the needle climbs, stop turning immediately once it reaches your desired pressure.

It is important not to force the adjustment. If the gauge needle stops moving or the knob itself no longer turns, stop immediately. Applying additional force can damage the regulator and compromise its performance.

While adjusting upward, always check the main air cylinder pressure. If the cylinder pressure is lower than your target regulator setting, the regulator gauge will not rise further. In this situation, the gauge will simply reflect the available cylinder pressure because there is not enough air to support a higher regulator setting.

Decreasing Regulator Pressure

One of the advantages of the MA3’s LFA system is that lowering pressure does not require draining the air cylinder. To reduce the regulator setting, turn the adjustment knob counter-clockwise about one-quarter to half a turn. At first, the regulator gauge may not change.

This delay is normal and occurs because the air trapped in the plenum has not yet been released. To update the pressure reading, point the rifle in a safe direction and dry fire a few shots. Once the gauge stabilizes, the displayed value is your new regulator pressure. Repeat the process if further reduction is needed.

Tuning Tip for Best Results

For faster and more precise tuning, we recommend lowering the regulator pressure slightly below your target value and then increasing it back up to the desired setting. This method helps the regulator settle more accurately and often saves time when fine-tuning for consistency.

With its externally accessible LFA regulator, the MA3 makes performance tuning straightforward and safe when done correctly. Take your time, make small adjustments, and always prioritize safety.
